Once again, Womble Bond Dickinson Columbia, SC Office Managing Partner Kevin Hall was an invited speaker at the Lavender Law Conference, the nation’s largest gathering of LGBTQ+ legal professionals. In addition, Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Mason Freeman represented the firm at this year’s conference, which was held virtually on Aug. 12-14.
Hall was among the speakers in a panel discussion titled, “Beyond the ‘Litigation’” Mindset: How to Effectuate Lasting Change Inside and Outside the Courtroom in Hostile Jurisdictions”.
In this workshop, attendees learned robust alternative methods to accomplish effective LGBTQ+ Civil Rights work in unfavorable jurisdictions, states and courts. The panelists discussed how to develop new viewpoints for identifying, creating, and implementing comprehensive long-term strategies to ensure full and lived equality for clients. They also spoke about how to deal effectively with uncertainty, and develop a willingness to think outside of the box when representing LGBTQ+ clients in hostile environments.
Joining him in the panel discussion were Nancy Abudu (Southern Poverty Law Center), Taylor Brown (ACLU), Eric Paulk (Georgia Equality) and Shelly Skeen (Lambda Legal).
