Womble Bond Dickinson US LLP partner Alidad Vakili recently presented a legal workshop to founders participating in the Neurotech Frontiers Incubation Program, an initiative incubation program managed by Janus Innovation Hub that supports innovative startups developing technologies designed to address neurodivergent challenges. The event took place July 1 in San Diego.

The presentation, titled “Your Legal Blueprint: Critical Early Decisions,” provided founders with practical guidance on some of the most important legal and business decisions startup companies face during their earliest stages of growth. Topics included entity formation, founder and employee documentation, corporate governance, intellectual property protection, customer contracting, and the legal risks associated with relying on artificial intelligence tools without appropriate oversight.

The workshop was presented as part of the Neurotech Frontiers Incubation Program, which supports entrepreneurs developing technologies intended to improve the lives of individuals affected by neurodivergent conditions. The participating companies are pursuing a wide range of innovative solutions at the intersection of technology, healthcare, and human performance.

During the session, Alidad emphasized the importance of establishing a strong legal foundation early in a company's lifecycle. Founders were encouraged to carefully consider corporate structure, proper documentation of relationships with founders, employees, consultants, and advisors, protection of intellectual property, and development of governance practices that can support future growth and financing activities.

The program follows the recent Neurotech Frontiers Summit held on May 19, 2026 at San Diego State University, which brought together entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, and industry leaders focused on advancing neurotechnology solutions. Representing Womble Bond Dickinson US LLP, one of the event sponsors, at the summit were Alidad Vakili, Michael Samardzjia, and Kristen Thall-Peters.

"Womble is proud to support organizations such as Neurotech Frontiers and Janus Innovation Hub that are helping entrepreneurs build innovative companies addressing meaningful societal challenges," said Alidad. "Many early-stage companies focus heavily on product development and fundraising, but sound legal planning can be equally important in positioning a company for long-term success."

The presentation concluded with practical recommendations for founders, including the importance of implementing appropriate legal documentation, safeguarding intellectual property, planning for future financings, and surrounding themselves with experienced advisors capable of navigating complex business and legal issues.

As emerging companies continue to push the boundaries of innovation in neurotechnology and related fields, Womble Bond Dickinson US LLP remains committed to supporting founders and investors throughout every stage of the company lifecycle.
