Stephen Shaw is an intellectual property attorney with deep and cross-functional experience protecting some of the world’s most recognizable brands. He advises companies on trademark, copyright, trade dress, and design-patent matters, bringing practical judgment shaped by years of guiding clients through high-stakes disputes and fast-moving enforcement demands. His prior work as both an IP litigator and in-house IP counsel spans strategic portfolio oversight, complex project management, federal litigation & TTAB proceedings, online and marketplace actions, and deep anti-counterfeiting expertise.
Before returning to private practice, Stephen served as Global Intellectual Property Counsel for a multinational apparel and footwear company, leading all IP functions for a portfolio of iconic consumer brands. He directed global clearance and prosecution strategies, managed internal and external legal teams, oversaw major enforcement initiatives, and worked closely with product development and technology business leaders. That firsthand in-house experience strengthens his ability to align legal strategy with commercial realities and business priorities.
Stephen previously spent more than a decade as a litigation partner at the firm, handling trademark, copyright, design, and patent disputes for Fortune 500 and mid-market clients. He has significant trial experience and has led successful actions involving both trademark and patent infringement as well as counterfeit goods investigations, domain-name disputes, online fraud, and e-commerce violations.
A Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Stephen also draws on more than two decades of military leadership, operational planning, and crisis decision-making. That experience shapes his approach to complex matters: disciplined preparation, clear communication, and a steady focus on mission and outcome. He also maintains a long-standing commitment to the local community, including board service with the Boy Scouts of America and meaningful involvement with regional educational and professional groups through advisory roles and guest roles teaching in intellectual property law.
