Womble Bond Dickinson is proud to announce that Partner Russ Ferguson has been named the interim U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Ferguson was sworn in at a March 11 ceremony.
Before joining Womble Bond Dickinson’s Charlotte office in 2012, Ferguson served as a federal prosecutor and tried nearly 30 cases to verdict and clerked for the Honorable Frank Whitney of the Western District of North Carolina. He has since become an attorney for complex litigation, white collar crime, and international arbitration. Most recently, he served as the Business Litigation Practice Group’s lead for Complex Litigation.
Womble Bond Dickinson Chair & CEO Merrick Benn said, “His contributions to our team have been invaluable, and he will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the firm. We thank Russ for his outstanding efforts and wish him the best in representing the United States of America.”
Here are additional reflections from some of his colleagues:
“Russ’ talent has been clear since he came to us from a clerkship with Judge Whitney. Practicing law with gifted lawyers like Russ is why we are in a law firm. I feel lucky to have worked with him, and in these times, we will be fortunate to have him representing the United States.”
- Jim Cooney“I have been fortunate to try a two-month trial with Russ and know what an amazing trial lawyer he is. Being named a United States Attorney is a well-deserved honor and he will be missed.”
- Claire Rauscher“Russ is an exceptional lawyer who was always quick to give time to brainstorm on legal issues and mentor others. I will miss him as a colleague and a friend.”
