(Moneylaundering.com) Luke Cass Speaks on U.S. Attorneys’ Efforts to Ramp Up Self-Reporting

Womble Bond Dickinson Partner Luke Cass, a former federal prosecutor, recently spoke with Moneylaundering.com about U.S. Attorney’s Offices ramping up semi-independent programs allowing companies to voluntarily self-report misconduct and enabling employees to blow the whistle on financial crimes and other illegal activities.
Since February 2023, 18 of the Justice Department’s 93 U.S. attorney’s offices have launched voluntary self-disclosure (VSD) programs for businesses. Four offices have created whistleblower reporting mechanisms, and seven have implemented both. Ten of these whistleblower programs began in 2024, with an additional program starting in North Carolina in January.
“Based on DOJ’s ongoing encouragement, reported upticks in tips and recent expansions, I expect more USAOs will launch similar whistleblower pilots … especially in districts handling high volumes of financial, tech or corruption cases,” Cass said.
