As part of the firm’s ongoing efforts to improve client service and increase efficiencies, Womble Carlyle today announced a partnership with ROSS Intelligence to provide the firm legal research services.

The ROSS Intelligence system is an A.I. lawyer that helps human lawyers research faster and focus on advising clients. The system allows attorney users to ask direct questions and receive accurate answers in seconds. ROSS Intelligence will allow Womble Carlyle attorneys to spend less time on legal research and more time on advising and representing clients.

“Womble Carlyle is always looking to put our clients one step ahead with the best information and analysis available,” said Womble Carlyle Vice Chair Ellen Gregg. “ROSS Intelligence’s technology represents a bright future where talented lawyers are able to leverage artificial intelligence to analyze legal issues and make connections that would otherwise be invisible.”

Womble Carlyle Chief Strategy Officer Bill Turner said, “Embracing cutting-edge technologies, like ROSS Intelligence’s platform, is important for Womble Carlyle to proactively deliver better service, more efficiently. Our pursuit of the ROSS Intelligence relationship was directed by our Innovation Center, which we launched this year to identify leading solutions and client service approaches like ROSS Intelligence.”

Partnering with ROSS Intelligence continues a long tradition of innovation at Womble Carlyle. For example, in two separate recent Financial Times Innovative Lawyer Reports, the firm’s Impact Economy Practice and Case Management Facility were recognized as legal industry trend-setters.

According to the reports, the top-ranked firms “demonstrate excellence and innovation, and they transcend the boundaries of everyday legal work.”

Also, a 2014 BTI report ranked Womble Carlyle in the top 5 percent of 650 large corporate law firms surveyed for “using technology more effectively or in new ways to add value to clients.”

Earlier this year, Womble Carlyle created an Innovation Board. This team of attorneys and staff members is charged with stimulating new thinking and new ideas. The ROSS Intelligence partnership is one of several innovative initiatives now underway at the firm.

Womble Carlyle’s partnership with ROSS Intelligence has received national media coverage from AmLaw Daily and JD Journal.
