Womble Strengthens Patent Prosecution Capabilities with Baltimore Partner Hire

BALTIMORE (April 20, 2026) – Womble Bond Dickinson announced today that Gregory M. Stone has joined the firm’s Patent Prosecution and Litigation Practice Group as a partner in Baltimore. Stone brings more than 30 years of experience in patent and intellectual property law, including prior service as a U.S. Patent Examiner in the mechanical and biomedical device arts. He represents manufacturers, technology-driven companies, and research institutions in the development, protection, and enforcement of their intellectual property assets, with a focus on aligning IP strategy with business objectives and long-term enterprise value.
Stone’s practice spans patent and trademark prosecution, global portfolio development, IP litigation support, and strategic counseling. He has extensive experience leading U.S. and international patent prosecution strategies and advising clients on building scalable, high-value patent portfolios. Stone also advises on intellectual property due diligence in complex mergers and acquisitions, as well as licensing and other IP transactions. He also brings strong relationships across the Mid-Atlantic technology and manufacturing communities, further enhancing the firm’s ability to connect with and support innovation-driven businesses in the region.

A mechanical engineer by training, Stone has deep experience across a wide range of technologies, including advanced manufacturing, mechanical systems, software, cybersecurity, clean energy, and materials science. He works closely with executive teams and engineering leaders to translate technical innovation into protected, monetizable assets and to build and scale patent portfolios that support growth and competitive positioning. He has a particular focus on supporting manufacturing clients as they build and scale intellectual property portfolios in competitive markets.
Stone is also active in the business and academic communities with longstanding involvement in regional technology and innovation networks, and frequently serves as a guest lecturer at regional universities and technology incubators on intellectual property strategy and commercialization.
He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
