WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 13, 2025) – Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP is pleased to announce that partners Alexandre "Alex" de Gramont and David Attanasio have been recognized in the 2025 Chambers Global Guide in the area of International Arbitration: Counsel (USA – Nationwide).
Alex de Gramont leads the firm’s International Disputes Practice, bringing more than three decades of experience in complex cross-border disputes. Recognized as a leader in international arbitration and litigation, he represents clients in industries such as energy and natural resources, life sciences, manufacturing, and financial services in disputes spanning the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. De Gramont has handled cases before major arbitration bodies including the ICC, ICDR, LCIA, PCA, SCC, and ICSID, as well as ad hoc cases under the UNCITRAL Rules. His practice covers both international commercial disputes and investor-state arbitration, with significant experience in claims under bilateral and multilateral treaties. He co-authored The International Arbitration Rulebook and has taught at Georgetown University Law Center. He has also taught courses in Asia, Europe, and Latin America in collaboration with institutions such as UNCTAD and the International Law Institute. De Gramont earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A., with high honors, from Wesleyan University.
David Attanasio focuses his practice on resolving complex international disputes, particularly in the energy and natural resources sector. He has extensive experience in international arbitration under leading institutional rules, as well as in cross-border litigation and public international law. Attanasio is known for his strategic advocacy and deep knowledge of investor-state arbitration, regularly advising clients on contract- and treaty-based claims and international legal frameworks. Fluent in Spanish, he has substantial experience with Latin American disputes. He co-authored an award-winning treatise on investor-state arbitration and frequently writes and speaks on the subject. Attanasio serves on the board of the International Law Association (American Branch) and has taught as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and holds a Ph.D., C. Phil, and M.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also graduated with a B.A., summa cum laude, from Tufts University.
