Mike is an experienced complex commercial litigator in the Charlotte office of Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP, having represented businesses and clients of all sizes in complex, high-stakes litigation. A former college and professional athlete, Mike practices extensively in the area of name, image, and likeness with athletes, businesses, universities, sports agencies, and collectives. Mike regularly advises major Power Four universities on complex NIL, revenue sharing, and regulatory matters, and has significant experience in litigating NIL and sports-related issues, including in several landmark cases which received significant national media attention.  Recognized as a leading attorney in NIL at both the college and high school levels, Mike is sought out locally and nationally for his expertise and experience.

Mike has also represented high profile clients in NFL and related Congressional investigations, and in 2023, Mike spent several months in trial defending one of the largest criminal tax prosecutions brought by the Justice Department that year—the first federal prosecution in United States history regarding conservation easements.

Mike’s practice also includes extensive work with charter school and other education-related clients, as well as in numerous matters involving constitutional law on behalf of North Carolina’s General Assembly.  

His additional practice experience includes class action defense, trade secret litigation, shareholder disputes, internal investigations and compliance, and other general complex commercial litigation. He has litigated cases on behalf of major corporations, small businesses, medical practices, educational institutions, elected officials, the North Carolina General Assembly, and professional athletes before numerous state and federal courts, as well as in the American Arbitration Association, including the International Centre for Dispute Resolution.  

Before joining Womble Bond Dickinson, Mike worked with the Honorable Louis A. Bledsoe, III and the Honorable Michael Robinson of the North Carolina Business Court. Prior to law school, Mike played in the National Football League. Mike currently serves on the board of the Charlotte Touchdown Club and as the litigation chair for the North Carolina Bar Association’s Sports & Entertainment Law Council. He recently served on the board of directors for the Charlotte chapter of the NFLPA’s retired players division.
