Zhan (John) Cao is a member of the firm’s Patent Practice Group. John focuses his practice on intellectual property counseling and the protection of intellectual property in the fields of electronics, software, and computer-related technologies.
John provides a broad range of patent related services including preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications, and patent litigation support. John’s areas of practice include integrated circuitry, semiconductors, machine learning (artificial intelligence), virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), medical devices, cloud computing, communication and networking systems, Internet technologies, computer architecture, data storage systems, and software systems.
During law school, John served as an Associate Editor, and then Managing Editor for IDEA: The Journal of the Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property. During Fall of 2015, he served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable William G. Young, US Federal District Judge, District of Massachusetts. Prior to law school, John worked for over 3 years as a Systems Engineer for Macdonald Dettwiler & Associates, and as an intern for Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
