Sally qualified in 1992 having completed her training with the firm and until recently was a partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency team specialising in investigative work, civil fraud, and related regulatory action. In her new role as Partner Lead for Responsible Business, Sally's focus is exclusively on our Responsible Business strategy and the delivery of our core objective to build an ever more sustainable, inclusive and progressive business. She works closely with the Board and leadership teams, as well as wider teams, driving the firm's Responsible Business agenda and contributing to the firm's work on ESG, including oversight of our ESG advisory work and client collaborations. Sally is also chair of our Ethical Thinking Group. 

In her roles as Lead Sponsor for Community Engagement and Trustee of the WBD Foundation, Sally oversees our charitable giving, volunteering and pro bono work.

As Lead Partner Sponsor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Sally provides overall leadership of our DEI networks: WBD Disability, WBD Pride (LGBTQ+ network), WBD Reach (Race, Ethnicity And Cultural Heritage network), WBD Thrive (women's network), as well as our Family network. Sally is a qualified Mental Health First Aider, Menopause Champion and has been a panel member for WBD's joint event with the Law Society on Disability Inclusion in the Legal Profession, and at WBD Thrive's internal Role Models event.

Experience

Examples of experience include:

  • Advising The Insolvency Service and providing strategic direction in numerous complex, high profile and commercially sensitive investigations involving liaison with HM Revenue & Customs, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Pensions Regulator, Trading Standards, the Police and other interested parties
  • Acting for the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in public interest winding up proceedings against companies engaged in objectionable business practises often involving investment scams and other frauds
  • Acting for the Secretary of State in disqualification proceeding against the director of a company which contrived and facilitated a multi-million pound pension scheme abandonment (12-year order obtained); the director of a company which breached FCA rules and guidance (12-year order obtained); and high profile proceedings in the Court of Session against the director of the company which operated Rangers Football Club (15-year order obtained)
  • Acting for insolvency practitioners in a wide range of personal insolvency cases and advising in relation to recovery strategy.
