CHARLOTTE, NC—Former Wells Fargo Vice President and Senior IP Counsel Dave Easwaran has joined Womble Bond Dickinson’s Charlotte office.

Easwaran brings a well-rounded skill set to the firm.  He is deeply engaged in the patent legal community and currently serves as co-chair of the IPO’s U.S. Patent Office Practice committee.  He started his career as a patent examiner focused on financial services innovation, and then spent many years growing a pure-play software patent practice before joining the bank.

At Wells Fargo, Easwaran directed IP support for several key lines of business and led enterprise-wide IP support for data science, AI/ML, and quantum-related innovation.  Easwaran also managed contested IP matters and oversaw the bank’s trade secret program.

“Considering a return to private practice,” said Easwaran, “I was looking for three things: a commitment to growth in IP, a strong infrastructure supporting its patent practice, and a reputation for talent and integrity.  Womble was the natural fit, and I am thrilled to join the team.”

At Womble Bond Dickinson, Easwaran will focus on patent prosecution and portfolio management, particularly in the financial services and software sectors.

“Dave is well-known and respected by our IP group based on relationships built over a number of years, and we are excited to bring in such an accomplished lawyer from Wells Fargo, one of our firm’s oldest clients,” said Chris Humphrey, the leader of Womble Bond Dickinson’s Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group.  “His skills and experience will greatly benefit our clients.”
