Womble Bond Dickinson US Chair & CEO-Elect Merrick Benn has been named to The Daily Record’s 2024 listing of Influential Marylanders.

Benn, who practices in the firm’s Baltimore office, was named Womble Bond Dickinson’s next US Chair & CEO in May. He will assume the firm’s top US leadership role on Jan. 1, 2025.

A global finance partner, Benn has 25 years of experience advising clients in equipment finance transactions, including secured financings, cross-border transactions, and structured finance. Since joining Womble in 2009, he has held many prominent leadership positions, which, in addition to his practice, contribute to his strong financial acumen and understanding of the firm's business operations.

Benn was first elected to Womble’s Firm Management Committee in 2017, serving for three terms. During that time, he was appointed to the Executive Committee, named US Vice Chair, and served as Capital Markets Practice Group Leader and Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee. Benn is also a former member of the Finance & Administration, Operations, and Budget Committees, the latter of which he chaired for two years.

Fifty-seven Influential Marylanders were selected by the editors of The Daily Record for their significant contributions to their respective fields and for their leadership in Maryland in the following areas: civic leadership, communications, education, finance, freestyle, general business, health care, law, philanthropy, real estate, and technology. Elected officials are not eligible for this award because they are by nature influential.

“The 2024 Influential Marylanders are accomplished leaders who demonstrate vision and innovation. What they focus their attention on really matters; what they say is important; and what they do makes a difference for many of us in Maryland and beyond,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of BridgeTower Media/The Daily Record. “Influential Marylanders are mentors to other leaders, and they challenge us to realize and attain our own hopes and dreams. We are honored to recognize their many accomplishments.”
