Womble Bond Dickinson created the IP internship program to provide career awareness opportunities for various IP careers at a law firm for diverse students from science and technical backgrounds.
Through the IP internship program, upper-level undergraduate as well as Master’s-level students can participate in dedicated professional development sessions and networking events across the firm. In addition, IP interns complete hands-on work that will provide them with unique experiences and insight into the resources available at a law firm.
- Womble Bond Dickinson’s IP internship program is 10 weeks in length and takes place in the firm’s Charlotte, North Carolina office. IP interns will work with and learn from a variety of IP professionals to expand their learning experience and provide them with a range of networking opportunities.
- Through the IP internship program, students will build a network within their team and with their assigned mentor. IP internship students will also be invited to office and firm events.
- Candidates eager to learn about IP careers at a law firm and to develop their professional skills are encouraged to apply to the firm’s IP internship program. Candidates who are proactive, driven and have a growth mindset will be successful in this program.
Previous IP Interns have received training by completing projects such as the following over the course of the 10-week summer program:
- Read claim rejections and objections and responded to office actions
- Conducted searches for prior art to determine patentability of a proposed system
- Adapted European claims for US patent applications
Benefits of participating in our IP internship program include:
- Professional Development: Attend bi-weekly professional development trainings and leverage those skills as you travel to the firm’s Winston-Salem, Charlotte and Raleigh offices
- Networking: Build your network across the firm by completing a Networking BINGO challenge and having some friendly competition between your fellow interns
- Team Building: Form strong bonds with your fellow interns by attending a range of in-person and virtual events such as outings at TopGolf and virtual drawing classes
