Kate specialises in planning, highways and compulsory purchase law and acts for a range of clients from local authorities and registered social housing providers to housing developers and individuals.

She advises clients on: compulsory purchase orders and compensation claims arising from such orders; definitive map modification orders and objections to such orders; judicial review of decisions to grant planning permission; highways agreements and planning obligations; and various other planning issues including electricity wayleaves, the protection afforded to trees and hedgerows and commons consent.



Examples of experience include advising:

  • a private landowner on objecting to a Definitive Map Modification Order at public inquiry
  • a local authority in the North East in relation to making a Compulsory Purchase Order and preparing for public inquiry
  • Bellway Homes and Persimmon on section 106 agreements and infrastructure agreements for various development sites throughout the North, including the drafting and negotiating of such agreements
  • Hartlepool Borough Council in relation to defending a class action in the Upper Tribunal Lands Chamber in relation to a compulsory purchase scheme
  • Cory Environmental Limited in relation to a public inquiry concerning a combined heat and power plant in Norfolk.
