Client surveys suggest a considerable talent of Jim’s is his ability to collect complex information, distill it and present it to decision makers in a clear, simple and compelling fashion. Jim developed his legal talent from more than 30 years of litigating cases, successfully resolving an array of disputes in South Carolina’s state and federal courts and contributing to more than 35 jury trials to verdict. He represents major national and regional companies and banks as well as individuals and minority business interests; he has represented some for over 25 years.

Specifically, he has mediated, arbitrated and tried cases in the areas of commercial disputes, personal injury (defense and plaintiff), products liability, and contested environmental permits.

Business disputes, a focus in recent years, include breakups of limited liability companies and limited liability partnerships and more typical contract conflicts. Products liability cases have addressed sterile eye solutions, industrial equipment, tires, shotguns, asbestos-containing products and commercial irrigation systems. Other work involving personal injury has included representation of several tractor-trailer companies and other transportation interests. Land use litigation including contested environmental matters (stormwater permits and water quality certifications) have provided deep knowledge of SC regulatory agencies and administrative law, with reported wins before the SC Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court.
