In partnership with the American Heart Association’s Winston-Salem Heart Ball, Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice, LLP is proud to announce the first-ever Healthy Heart Challenge in Forsyth County.

“With heart disease and stroke being up to 80% preventable, we are excited to recognize those individuals in our community that are not only setting true examples of living heart healthy, but are in fact raising the bar for heart health in Forsyth County,” shares William Whitehurst, Winston-Salem Office Managing Partner of Womble Carlyle. “It is my great honor to chair the 2017 Winston-Salem Heart Ball and to lead the charge with Womble Carlyle to encourage the residents of Forsyth County to embrace a culture of health.”

Bill Whitehurst has three decades of experience guiding companies in employee benefits matters, Employee Stock Ownership Plans, and other ownership succession plans. Whitehurst has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and has been included in the North Carolina Super Lawyer ranks since 2006. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Wake Forest University, his MBA from the University of North Carolina, and his Doctor of Law Degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

As part of the Healthy Heart Challenge, Womble Carlyle and the American Heart Association will be accepting nominations for men and women who have made lifestyle changes in exercise and eating habits to prevent heart disease and stroke. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of both men and women in the United States. Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death in the nation and the leading cause of permanent disability.

Three finalists will be announced at the Healthy Heart Challenge celebration in January 2017. Public voting will decide the 2017 Healthy Heart ChallengeWinner, which will be announced at the Winston-Salem Heart Ball on Friday, April 28th. The winner will receive great prizes and become the “Face of Heart Health” in Forsyth County for 2017.
