Tolerance and diversity are more than fads or fleeting thoughts at Womble Carlyle. For the second consecutive year, the super-regional powerhouse corporate law firm has earned a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.

The 2016 HRC Corporate Equality Index measures corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality. The measured criteria include:

  • Non-discrimination workplace protections
  • Domestic partner benefits
  • Transgender-inclusive health care benefits
  • Company-wide organizational competency programs
  • Positive public engagement with the LGBT community

Womble Carlyle satisfied all of the criteria and has been designated a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality. In all, 407 major U.S. businesses earned perfect scores on the 2016 HRC Corporate Equality Index

“Respect for the individual is one of our core values, and LGBT equality is part of that respect,” said Womble Carlyle Chair Keith Vaughan. “We are honored that the Human Rights Campaign has recognized our firm again for respecting all employees.”

Brent Clinkscale, Co-Chair of Womble Carlyle’s Diversity Committee, said, “Workplace equality doesn’t just happen—it requires companies to adopt policies and procedures that promote equality. At Womble Carlyle, we are taking great pains to ensure that the rights of all employees are protected.”

“We are proud to be recognized once again by the HRC, but more importantly, we're proud that each of our employees strives to embody the best of what this recognition represents,” said Womble Carlyle Chair-Elect Betty Temple.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
