CHARLOTTE, NC—Experienced financial transactions attorney Taber Cathcart has been named the new co-leader of Womble Bond Dickinson’s Financial Institutions Sector Team . She joins US partner Debbie Harden and UK partner Simon Richardson in leading the transatlantic team, which guides banks, credit unions, financial services providers, and asset and wealth managers in complex commercial, regulatory, dispute resolution (including litigation, arbitration and mediation), bankruptcy/restructuring, and transactional matters.

Cathcart replaces long-time Womble Bond Dickinson Capital Markets attorney Chris Leon, who helped oversee the integration of the firm’s US and UK financial institutions practices. Both Cathcart and Harden are based in Charlotte, one of the world’s leading markets for the financial services industry.

“Womble Bond Dickinson has a long history of advising and supporting banks and other financial services clients, and our commitment to serving these companies has never been stronger,” Cathcart said. “I am honored to co-lead this outstanding team of attorneys and professionals as we help our clients to achieve their goals.”

On the US side, Cathcart joins Harden, a litigation attorney with more than 30 years of experience in high-stakes banking and finance litigation. Cathcart primarily concentrates her practice on senior credit facilities, including syndicated and cross-border facilities, as well as subordinated debt transactions.

“Earlier this month, we were honored with Mansfield Rule 2.0 Certification for our commitment to diversity and inclusion in promotions and hiring. With Taber and Debbie, we have two women partners leading one of our largest sector teams,” said Betty Temple, Chair and CEO of Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP. “Taber is highly respected by her clients, colleagues and peers, and we are delighted to have her in this key firm leadership role.”

Temple added, “I also want to thank Chris for his many years of leadership to the firm’s capital markets and financial institution teams. I can say with confidence that our Financial Institutions Sector Team would not be as robust and successful as it is today without his contributions, which are too numerous to list.”

Womble Bond Dickinson’s Financial Institutions Sector Team includes nearly 200 attorneys in the US and UK representing a range of practice areas. Financial institution clients turn to Womble Bond Dickinson for guidance in credit facilities, commercial lending, equipment leasing and finance, and other transactions. In addition, the Financial Institutions Sector Team guides industry clients in consumer finance dispute resolution and litigation, fiduciary counseling and litigation, complex and class action banking litigation, investment fund structuring and management, wealth transfer issues, financial services-related IP/trademarks, and fintech and insurtech matters.
