Students from Elon Law had a recent opportunity to learn about careers in intellectual property law from practitioners in the field.
Jack Hicks serves as an Adjunct Professor at Elon Law, where he teaches classes on IP topics. He moderated a panel discussion for students titled “Careers in IP Law.” Womble Carlyle’s David Crowe and Stephen Shaw took part in the discussion as did attorneys Michael Pruden of Volvo Trucks and Sarah Nagae of Nexsen Pruet.
The Careers in IP Law patent discussion took place February 9th in Womble Carlyle’s Greensboro office.
Jack Hicks has more than 25 years of experience global businesses through all stages of the intellectual property process. He has considerable experience helping companies prepare and prosecute patents in international venues, particularly in Europe and in Asia. In 2013-15, he served as Vice-Chair of the US Bar-EPO Liaison Council, an organization made up of US bar association-appointed members and holds meetings to discuss matters of importance to US practitioners who have clients who pursue patent protection.
David Crowe’s practice focuses upon all aspects related to the acquisition of patent rights, including patentability studies, as well as application preparation and prosecution for both utility and design applications filed in the US and abroad. His practice covers mechanical, electromechanical, optical, and materials-based technologies.
Stephen Shaw he helps businesses and entrepreneurs create and protect their intellectual property rights, and helps leverage the value of IP assets in the marketplace. His experience includes litigation of major intellectual property issues in a variety of domains, including copyright, trademark and patent disputes. He also assists with a wide range of IP transactions, including development of patent portfolios, technology transfer, licensing arrangements and strategic alliances.
