The Womble Carlyle family mourns the loss of retired attorney Al Purrington III, a founding Partner of the firm’s Raleigh office.

In 1982, Womble Carlyle opened its first office outside of Winston-Salem with the addition of a Raleigh office. Mr. Purrington and his father, Al Purrington, Jr., both joined the firm at that time. They were joined by Don Donadio and Lawrence Davis, who relocated to Raleigh from Winston-Salem. As veteran Raleigh attorneys, the Purringtons were essential in ensuring that the new office launched successfully.

Donadio said Mr. Purrington “was a gifted, well respected attorney who maintained the highest ethical standards.  The Purringtons were warm and welcoming to us and were generous to a fault, sharing their clients with us and doing everything they could to get us off to a good start.”
