WHITEFISH, MONT.—Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Jeff Simpson will speak at the Montana Captive Insurance Association 14th Annual Conference.

Simpson will lead a presentation on “Enterprise Risk Captive Market Update”. Enterprise Risk Captives (ERCs), otherwise known as 831(b) and/or microcaptives, have been one of the fastest growing segments of the captive insurance marketplace over the last few years. These captives have also come under scrutiny by the IRS, leading to questions about their long term viability. In this session, Simpson will provide an update on the regulatory/legal environment for ERCs and what this may portend for market activity in the years ahead.

The Montana Captive Insurance Association Annual Conference is scheduled for July 16-18 in Whitefish, Mont.

Simpson also recently represented Womble Bond Dickinson at the Tennessee Captive Insurance Association Annual Conference (which included a presentation by Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Andrew Rennick) and the Kentucky Captive Association 2019 Educational Conference. Simpson and Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Lisa Bondurant gave a presentation on “Legal Issues Facing the Captive Industry” at the Kentucky event.

Jeff Simpson leads Womble Bond Dickinson’s Captive Insurance Team. He focuses his practice on the formation, regulation and governance of captive insurance companies, and assists with all matters in the lifecycle of a captive. Jeff is a founder and director of the Delaware Captive Insurance Association and serves on its legislative and regulatory liaison committees, working closely with regulators. He also is a director of the Self-Insurance Institute of America and chairs its Enterprise Risk Captive Advocacy Working Group.
