ATLANTA—Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Steve Middlebrook has been named a 2020 Georgia Trailblazer by the Daily Report, a publication of American Lawyer Media.
According to the Daily Report, Georgia Trailblazers are “professionals who have made significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancement of their practice.”
Middlebrook was recognized because of his involvement in the FinTech sector and in particular his work with emerging payment technologies. The Daily Report writes, “Middlebrook, who practices financial technology law, is advising companies in the emerging wage-advance industry, which lets workers collect pay for the hours they’ve put in whenever they want. Many wage-advance products are already on the market and are especially popular with contract workers.”
The Daily Report also notes Middlebrook’s background at the US Treasury Department, where he helped develop a prepaid card program for federal benefits recipients. He was also general counsel at two FinTech companies before joining Womble Bond Dickinson, giving him first-hand experience in real-world business matters as well as insight into state and federal regulation of financial services
Middlebrook leads the FinTech Team at Womble Bond Dickinson (US) in the firm’s Atlanta office. He advises financial institutions, payment networks, FinTech companies and other entities on legal issues that arise in the intersection of financial services and technology.
