RALEIGH, N.C. - Womble Carlyle is proud to announce former United States Attorney Ripley Rand has joined the firm’s Business Litigation practice group. Nominated by former President Barack Obama, Rand served as US Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina for six years. During that time, he was one of a handful of Pres. Obama's US Attorneys to argue multiple cases before a federal appeals court.

Prior to his service as a US Attorney, Rand served as a North Carolina Superior Court Judge from 2002 to 2010, handling civil and criminal cases in more than half of the state's 100 counties. He also served for several years as an Assistant District Attorney in the Wake County District Attorney’s Office in Raleigh.

“I am excited to be joining Womble Carlyle and taking on this new role,” Rand said.

Rand will be based in the firm’s Raleigh office, where his practice will focus on white collar criminal defense, healthcare fraud defense, internal investigations, and regulatory enforcement.

“We’re delighted that Ripley has chosen to practice with Womble Carlyle in Raleigh.  Ripley is highly qualified to help companies and people navigate every aspect of the criminal justice system,” said Johnny Loper, the firm’s Raleigh office managing partner. “His experience will provide clients with a perspective that few lawyers have.”
