Laws governing the collection, storage, transmission and use of consumer data vary considerably across individual states. This patchwork of regulation can be confusing for companies that do business in multiple states.

So Womble Bond Dickinson Privacy and Cybersecurity attorneys Ted Claypoole and Taylor Ey have created a new 50 State Affirmative Data Obligations Map. This interactive map provides up-to-date information on both proposed and existing laws affecting business obligations and consumer rights in data collection. For example, the map tracks whether or not a state has adopted an omnibus statute vesting residents with enumerated data rights, such as the right to opt out or be forgotten.

The map is free and easy to use. Simply hover over a state to find out about introduced legislation and proposed legislation in that state. Click on a state to read about enacted statutes and adopted regulations.
