RALEIGH, N.C.—The UK-US relationship is the world’s largest bilateral investment relationship. UK companies employ more US workers than those of any other nation, and trade between the two nations totals more than $200 billion annually. This “special relationship,” to quote Winston Churchill, reflects why lawyers from both countries formed Womble Bond Dickinson, the transatlantic law firm close to home.

For the past year, the firm’s Raleigh office has been home to the UK Government’s North Carolina Consul Andrew Terrell. On Jan. 25, Mr. Terrell commemorated his office’s one-year anniversary with a reception that highlighted UK-NC trade and investment links. More than 100 British-American business stakeholders attended the event.

Mr. Terrell offered remarks about the strong relationship between the UK and the US, particularly North Carolina. His message was that with low corporate tax rates and strong economic fundamentals, the UK is open for business.

“Looking ahead to building a new Global Britain, we intend to be the leading advocate of free trade arrangements worldwide. And we intend, after Brexit, to do free trade deals with all the major global economies,” Mr. Terrell said. “And the US is the top priority.”

North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Tony Copeland also spoke at the event, as did Womble Bond Dickinson Raleigh Office Managing Partner Beth Tyner Jones.

Both Johnny Loper, former Raleigh Office Managing Partner, and Womble Bond Dickinson received honorary commendations by Her Majesty’s Consul for commitment and dedication in service of strengthening the alliance between the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland and the United States.
