Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Rachel Levy Magaziner will serve as a faculty member for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Annual Conference.
Magaziner will help lead a panel discussion on “Hot Topics in Compliance, Including Form I-9”. The pandemic and the rise of remote work have led to significant changes in the employment eligibility verification compliance landscape. The panelists will provide an overview of where things stand today, and they will examine the issues employers need to be aware of to maintain compliant programs in this ever-changing environment. Specific topics to be addressed will include:
- Form I-9 basics and properly managing remote hires including the ending of COVID-19 temporary flexibilities.
- Practical tips for conducting an internal I-9 audit and remediating errors to minimize potential liabilities.
- Understanding and advising on Form I-9 liabilities during corporate transactions.
- What does an employer need to know when assessing whether or not to voluntarily become an E-Verify participant?
- Understanding Social Security “no-match” letters.
In addition, she contributed to the AILA publication Immigration Practice Pointers, Tips for Handling Complex Cases in advance of the conference. This comprehensive white paper will be distributed to conference attendees. Magaziner contributed a section titled, “Understanding and Advising on Form I-9 Liabilities During Corporate Transactions: You Cannot Have Your Cake and Eat It, Too!”
