Jennifer Itzkoff, Womble Bond Dickinson Boston Office Support Northeastern Law School Moot Court Team in Trademark Competition

BOSTON—The Northeastern University School of Law sent a team of students to the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court competition hosted by the International Trademark Association.  The four-member trademark moot court team took third place at the New York Regional of the competition that was held at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn on Saturday, February 8, 2020. 

Womble Bond Dickinson trademark, IP transactions and patent litigation attorney Jennifer Itzkoff served as a coach to the NUSL team. In addition, Womble Bond Dickinson’s Boston Office and Diversity and Inclusion Committee provided a scholarship to the highly diverse team in order to help them prepare for and compete in the competition.

Students Anna Daniels ‘21, Ana Teixeira ‘21, Allen Loayza ‘20, and Sarah Odion Esene ‘20 placed third for their combined brief and oral argument in the region. The competition involved an analysis of a mock case concerning issues arising in United States trademark and unfair competition law and the particularly challenging issue of trade dress and what is oxymoronically called “aesthetic functionality.” The team submitted an appellate brief in early January and practiced their oral arguments for five weeks before competing before two three-judge panels.

In addition to Jennifer, the team was guided by Professors Jeremy Paul and Alex Philipson.
