Martha is a commercial associate specialising in data protection and commercial contract advice.

During the run up to GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 implementation, Martha gained significant experience in advising a wealth of clients regarding their data protection compliance strategies, including large scale compliance auditing and remediation projects for a number of global clients.

Martha has continued to assist in advising clients across a wide range of sectors regarding various data protection and privacy concerns, with particular experience within the manufacturing, insurance, retail, hospitality, property and academic sectors. This has involved a scalable approach to compliance advice ranging from local SME clients, to clients with a global presence. Her experience includes reviewing various policies and procedures, along with bespoke drafting of data processing agreements and associated controller / processor analysis. Martha has frequently provided strategic advice regarding regulatory compliance, the laws on privacy, direct marketing and cookies, and coordinating global compliance projects. Martha is CIPP/E certified.

Martha also has significant experience with commercial contract drafting and negotiation, and has spent over twelve months seconded to a global chemical manufacturer's in-house legal team advising on a broad range of commercial matters. Martha's expertise spans from leading on global routes to market projects, to negotiation of a wide range of supply and purchase agreements, framework agreements, confidentiality agreements, and IT contracts.

  • Advising a public sector body in relation to the drafting and negotiation of data sharing agreements, to govern the flow of personal data under one of its programmes
  • Assisting on various GDPR-readiness projects, including the review of various policies and procedures, along with bespoke drafting of data processing agreements and data controller / processor analysis
  • Advising a local government body on the data protection implications of rolling out a biometric payment system, including analysis of the data sharing roles of the various stakeholders, and advising on required contractual provisions
  • Advising a North-East based client in relation to the supply of electrical vehicle charging infrastructure and services
  • Advising a UK tech company in relation to an international research and development agreement
  • Advising a global chemical manufacturing client in relation to its business-critical global freight-forwarding arrangements, including drafting a complex framework agreement to capture a range of logistics and customs services
  • Advising numerous clients in relation to their standard terms and conditions of sale and purchase.
