Having specialized in healthcare coding and auditing for more than two decades, Marian’s experience has extended to supervision and management of health information management departments in the acute care and mental health settings. Holding credentials as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM trainer, Marian guides credentialed auditors in reviewing coding and billing compliance for healthcare clients. This includes health services reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare and commercial payers.

Marian provides proactive compliance consulting for hospitals, physicians and healthcare systems. Should compliance issues arise, our auditing staff provides support to both our attorneys and clients.

In addition to helping clients meet regulatory compliance, Marian and her team provide a work product identifying billing pattern trends, errors when present, and clinical documentation improvement efforts. Emphasis is placed on quality documentation which supports patient care, data, research, education, and accurate reimbursement.

  • Over the course of seven years provided contract interim Health Information Management services for acute care facilities. Most recent experience includes the role of Compliance Auditor for two major healthcare systems in North Carolina.
  • Participated in litigation projects on behalf of health care providers in the Medicare and Medicaid compliance arena. Conducted evaluation and management audits and provided educational services for the Forensic and Investigation Division of a national accounting firm.
  • Developed plans, as a contributing member of a healthcare organization’s leadership team, for the implementation of ICD-10-CM including the delivery of educational sessions for providers as well as incorporating resources related to Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs). Expanded and adapted educational content to incorporate Medicare Evaluation and Management guidelines for biweekly new provider orientation sessions.
  • Developed and presented a three phase ICD-9-CM and CPT education training program for a nationally known twenty-two facility orthopaedic organization which included (1) Evaluating individual facility implementation plans in relationship to corporate plan; and (2) Providing an educational program for medical, clinical and coding staff; and on-site chart reviews of the coding progress.
  • Reduced an 800 + bed acute care facility’s AR from $5,000,000 to $600,000 in addition to providing cost benefit analysis and proposals for electronic medical record systems while serving as interim director of medical records.
