Ian specialises in consenting planning and infrastructure projects and has a previous career in environmental engineering project management. He is involved in work advising clients on the delivery of infrastructure projects, Development Consent Orders, planning applications, compulsory purchase matters, and planning infrastructure agreements. 

Ian has experience acting for a wide range of public and private sector clients on, amongst other things, major infrastructure and regeneration projects. Ian has provided consenting advice on a number of infrastructure projects, including Norfolk Vanguard, Norfolk Boreas, Thanet Extension, East Anglia Three and Rail Central Strategic Rail Freight Interchange. He has recently returned into the Planning and Infrastructure team following ten months working in-house with a large renewable energy company where he worked on multiple legal aspects of delivering offshore wind farm projects. 

Ian has advised on a number of consenting risks including EIA, offshore radar mitigation and consultation risk. Ian has significant experience in co-ordinating multiple work streams across a variety of types of work and is experienced in many aspects of the project management, project delivery, legal risk, environmental risk, and planning issues.

  • Vattenfall Wind Power Limited on the promotion of two 1,800MW (3,600MW combined) offshore wind farm Development Consent Orders including advice on strategy and risk, assisting with advocacy at hearings, and negotiating associated agreements. 
  • East Anglia Offshore Wind - assisted in advising an offshore wind farm client with respect to a land referencing exercise as part of a development consent order application.
  • North Somerset District Council - assisted on all aspects of initial programming work in respect of a local transport scheme in Bristol.
  • Rail Central Strategic Rail Freight Interchange regarding the coordination and delivery of the legal aspects of the development consent order application
