Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has been shortlisted for Real Estate Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2020.

The firm was shortlisted for its work advising the South Tees Development Corporation on the acquisition and regeneration of the former steel works on Teesside from TATA Steel. A multi-disciplinary team, led by real estate partner John Booth, advised on real estate development, regeneration, environmental, corporate, tax and commercial issues. The project represented the first step towards the regeneration of the former steel work site that had been lying idle since its closure in 2015 at a cost of nearly 2,000 jobs.

John Booth commented:

"Our UK real estate team is one of the largest in the country and acts on a range of high profile international, domestic and regional projects. We're very pleased to have been shortlisted for Real Estate Team of the Year on the back of our work for the South Tees Development Corporation. The project will prove to be of real significance in terms of strengthening the UK's future manufacturing output and the regeneration of the site will see thousands of new jobs created as part of a high value, low carbon manufacturing and tech hub for the future. Helping our clients to support the North East economy in this way is an important part of Womble Bond Dickinson's long-term strategy."
