Law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) and corporate finance advisers Isca Ventures have advised F.R. Monkhouse, one of the largest independent schoolwear retailers in the UK and part of Banner group, on its acquisition of Early Years Schoolwear Ltd.

Founded in 1968, Early Years Schoolwear is a family business which has grown over the years to become the official stockists for around 70 schools in the Solihull, Birmingham and Stratford areas.

The WBD team was led by Partner Tom Fitzpatrick with Associate Alex Fergus. The Isca Ventures team included Matt Eves, Guy Eggleton and Al Halcrow.

Earlier this year, WBD and Isca Ventures had advised Wiltshire headquartered Banner, one of the leading school uniform and sportswear suppliers in the UK, on its acquisition of F.R. Monkhouse.

Glenn Leech of Banner commented:

"WBD and Isca deserve a big thank you from the team at Banner for their really excellent support in getting the deal over the line when we said we would.  It was particularly important to the seller and should help to further strengthen our reputation in the market for how we do business."

Tom Fitzpatrick of WBD commented:

"We're delighted to have advised F.R Monkhouse on this significant acquisition, which represents a further step in Banner's strategy to be the market leader in school uniform retailing. We look forward to continuing to support them as they carry on with their dynamic growth strategy."

Ranking in the UK's top 20 law firms, WBD provides legal expertise in eleven key sectors from across eight offices in the UK, including Bristol, Plymouth and London, and 18 offices in the US. The firm has a large corporate practice in the UK advising national and international clients on a broad range of corporate transactions, particularly M&A, IPOs, private equity investments as well as growth and development capital fundraisings.
