We are delighted to welcome Dr Gary Marchant, Professor of Emerging Technologies, Law & Ethics, and Faculty Director of the Center for Law, Science and Innovation, at the College of Law, Arizona State University.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is disrupting every sector of industry and society. Law is no exception. Lawyers are already being challenged by their clients’ increasing utilisation of AI in their processes and operations. But often pushed by those same clients, lawyers are also increasingly using AI in their own legal practices. This presentation will define and describe AI and explain why recent developments in AI are creating so much attention and disruption. Next, the presentation surveys some major applications of AI in the practice of law. Finally, the presentation explores some strategic and ethical challenges for lawyers and law firms created by the rise of AI.
