How can the FM sector benefit from the use of BIM? This event will provide a concise, high level introductory view of the use of BIM during the FM/operational phase of a building or asset. Our three speakers will provide complimentary reviews of the legal and contractual, operational and client-side perspectives of this important issue.
Topics which will be covered include:
- The legal perspective - a review of the legal framework for the use of BIM in the operational phase of the building or asset's life cycle. We will consider the way that BIM develops from the design/new build phase, how it can be used as a stand-alone process adopted in the operational phase and how this looks forward to the eventual conclusion of the asset's life cycle. Simon Lewis, Partner, Womble Bond Dickinson
- The Operational Perspective–a consideration of how BIM works from the perspective of the FM operator, reviewing the practicalities and issues arising from the use of BIM during the operational phase and lessons to be learned which will improve the process going forward. Paul Thomas, Turner & Townsend
- The Client's Perspective - A Digital Campus - UWE have had great success at implementing digital practices but not without challenges and there is still a long way to travel. The speakers will share an honest account of the journey so that others can leverage what they have learned along the way and scale up their own digital offering. Mike Ford, Digital / BIM Manager, and Joshua Davies, Digital / BIM Coordinator, University of the West of England.
The use of BIM during the FM/operational phase of assets is going to become increasingly significant. It is important to understand now how BIM for FM operates, how this fits in with the design/new build phase and how it can be adopted upon the acquisition of the asset.
